In December 2002, I.M.O developed an international standard for better security of merchant vessels and port facilities; so-called the I.S.P.S. Code. It is short for International Ship and Port Security Code. All operating terminals in Port of Conakry must prepare a security plan based on a risk analysis. The security system of each terminal needs to be accurately described. Employees need to be trained and each terminal needs to have an appointed safety officer. All the security plans from each terminals need to be recorded in Port Facility Secuirity Plan. A team of experts from the poliçe, customs and port authority assesses the plan that is subject to approval of local governance in Conakry. Port of Conakry has an approved safety plan that is yet to be reviewed by Conakry Port S.A. within the last quarter of 2019.
